How to Audit a Creative Website Before Adding Advertising

Advertising should not be the first test of a website. Check content, navigation, trust, performance, technical indexing, and the real user journey first.

Advertising exposes weak foundations

A website can look polished and still provide a poor experience when a user follows a link, opens a service page, tries a tool, or searches for company information.

Check the content purpose of every public page

Ask what the visitor can accomplish or learn. A service page should explain the service. A tool page should explain the tool and its limits. An article should solve a real problem. An About page should explain who operates the business.

Check trust information

Make the company, contact route, privacy practices, terms, refund rules, and service expectations easy to find. Keep claims consistent across pages and remove statistics or testimonials that cannot be supported.

Test the complete user journey

Use a phone and desktop. Open navigation, search for a service, open a tool, test a safe sample workflow, and go through the enquiry or purchase flow far enough to identify broken steps.

Check technical discoverability and performance

Important public pages should be internally linked and included in the XML sitemap. Private account, checkout, admin, and payment routes should not become accidental search landing pages. Also look for slow scripts, oversized images, layout shifts, failed requests, and server errors.

The audit question

Would a first-time visitor still find this page useful if they never bought anything? If the answer is no, improve the page before adding more traffic.
